Goethe’s Amka Literary Festival is back
Goethe-Institut Nairobi’s Amka (Kiswahili for awaken) literary forum is a forum for upcoming writers and literary critics to share and discuss stories, poems, and current literature trends with the aim of enhancing their creativity. Amka was created for the discussion of topics and issues in the field of literature created by writers of the African Continent.
This moderated forum promotes study and critical exchanges of ideas among scholars, educators, students, and others with a strong interest in the literature of the African Continent. The forum seeks to encourage both scholarly pursuits and to deepen cultural and social knowledge and understanding through literature.
Amka aims to expand the creative industries in Kenya through the identification, development and training of literary talent. Every month, literary enthusiasts gather at the Goethe Institut to discuss African poems, novels and anthologies of short stories.
The meet-ups have been on hiatus since March when COVID-19 came around to disrupt our lives. Now Amka is back! The virtual literary forum is open to everyone who loves and appreciates African literature.
This Saturday, 27th June 2020, Amka will be live on zoom from 10:00am. Join in here: https://bit.ly/30JMur9. Send in short stories and poems for consideration before then to amkaforum@gmail.com.
