I remember coming across Mau from Nowhere's music at the height of the pandemic in late 2020.  He had just released his eponymous EP MFN  and the first track  really spoke to me. He raps about feeling like he's been reduced to an ornament in his room while the world burns outside and feeling selfish for wanting to take time off for himself.
Introspection and openness  are the crux of Mau from Nowhere's music. The Kenyan-British rapper has the innate ability to share his most vulnerable thoughts and feelings with listeners in a relatable way.
Describing himself as a "third culture" kid, Kamau Wainaina (Mau)'s music draws from his experience of growing up between Kenya and the UK and coming of age in the U.S. as a young adult.
The self-produced musician, rapper and multidisciplinary artist translates honesty into sonics and subject matter, carving a sound from what may appear foreign to some but is true to himself as an artist.

His new single Fireflies  released today (8-7-22) stays true to his signature raw consciousness.
"Fireflies was made at a period where I was quite spread thin. I had a particularly long day and actually produced the beat at the office and when I got to the studio afterward the words just came pouring out.
I think in many ways the song is about being lost for direction, which is why I included that conversation between me and my Cucu (Grandmother) at the end." Mau tells KenyaBuzz.
The self-produced single will (hopefully) warm you up and jolt you into calling up that loved and talk about pure, tender things.
