From one of Kenya's most celebrated writers Francis Imbuga's, Betrayal in the city is coming to the Kenya National Theatre this March. The 1976 play explores themes of neocolonialism in Africa and specifically in newly independent Kenya where few believed they had a stake in the future. In the words of one of the characters: "It was better while we waited. Now we have nothing to look forward to. We have killed our past and are busy killing our future."
The play elicited controversy when it was first released and Imbuga faced threats of censorship.
This year, under the directorship of award-winning director and producer Stuart Nash who has also showcased Sarafina,  Ngaahika Ndeenda/I'll Marry When I Want Grease, and Jesus Christ Superstar, Betrayal in the City will make a grand return to the stage from 2nd to 12th March.
Legendary Kenyan thespian Raymond Ofula is the protagonist of the play alongside a cast of top theater talent.
