Fonda NBO is a new Mexican cuisine restaurant located inside the Rossyln Riviera Mall along Limuru Road, just 5-minutes drive to Two Rivers when coming from Village Market direction.What's special?Fonda NBO conserves the "cantina" style in Mexico. Cantinas were Mexico's saloons where people use to eat and drink, ever since the time of the Mexican Revolution in the early 1900's. The authentic Mexican Menu includes all classic dishes; tacos, quesadillas and margarita.FondaWalking into the colourfully decorated restaurant, the question that ran through my mind was, what does "Fonda" mean? No, it's not a chain of restaurants run by legendary American actress Jane Fonda. The restaurant owner Yash Krishna later explained, while giving us a group tour of the two-story restaurant, that the word is of Arabic origin, and it means "tavern" or "inn", which in Mexico is equivalent to a "bistro".The idea to open up the eatery came to Yash while on a trip to Mexico with his wife. They both fell in love with the street foods and wanted to bring the culinary joy of freshly cooked Mexican food closer to home, in Nairobi. They use old, street Mexican recipes to prepare their food which will have guests coming back over and over again.

Traditional décor

The ambiance inside Fonda NBO is delightful. The traditional décor incorporating rustic tables and chairs, bright appetite-inducing walls, hanging lamps and Mexican pottery, and glassware will make you feel like you've been transported straight into a movie or telenovela set. Every detail inside is unapologetically Mexican but locally handcrafted.I really enjoyed Chocolate Chicken, referred to as Mole Poblano. It is a full-flavored tender chicken covered in chocolate and served in a handcrafted clay plate. To accompany this heavenly dish, a refreshing Lemon Lime Basil Margarita.
