If browsing Netflix for two hours because you can't decide what you want to watch sounds like the story of your life, then this post is for you. Here are my five picks of movies on Netflix that will knock your socks off.

1. Okja

A moving story about a girl and her giant pig, Okja wades through the murky waters of what constitutes as animal cruelty. It exposes the dark underbelly of commercial meat production through a fictional agrochemical company called the Miranda Corporation, which uses GMO technology to create super pigs that provide tasty and affordable meat to the world. A tug of war ensues between a group of animal rights activists known as the Animal Liberation Front whose work is to free animals from slaughterhouses and Mirando Corporation as they attempt to free Okja from impending death.

2. Birdbox

It's the Netflix movie not everyone can get enough of and you don't want to be left out as the internet goes wild with Birdbox memes.
Sandra Bullock plays Malorie, a no nonsense mother who has to navigate a dangerous river with her two children while blindfolded. Their journey takes place five years after a supernatural presence causes people to commit suicide when they look at it. It takes on the form of your deepest fear or the beckoning image of a loved one.

3. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

Six wild short stories ranging from funny to sombre, the Ballad of Buster Scruggs takes place in the Wild West where the gold rush made people go insane, where gun fights at salons over small misunderstandings and contract killers casually talking shop were as ubiquitous as the cacti that dotted the frontier States.

4. Annihilation

This mind-bending thriller follows five scientists as they traverse an alien phenomenon known as the Shimmer in order to find its origin, which is a lighthouse on the coast of Black Water National Park. The environment inside the Shimmer genetically modifies organisms, distorts the DNA of everything that is in it and cross breeds species creating beastly horrors.

5. Mowgli

Netflix's adaptation of Jungle Book takes a dark turn as young Mowgli is forced to choose sides after he is ostracised from the jungle and captured by the man village. Insisting he is neither a wolf nor a man, Mowgli returns to the jungle to overthrow Shere Khan's tyrannical reign and restore peace in the jungle.
