Fenty Beauty Line by Rihanna: Dripping Melanin and Gold

Rihanna’s all new Fenty beauty line has created a major buzz on social media and for quite obvious reasons if I may add. The beauty campaign was the ideal show of the diversity not only in beauty standards but also in the beautiful shades of black. The “nude” lip-gloss has finally been addressed for women of all colours- as opposed to how it has been in the recent past. Melanin queens have been fully catered for in her line.

The beauty about this cosmetic line-no pun intended, is how it is able to cater for women of all colours- Caucasians, black women, Asians and even mixed race. It makes for a perfect everyday office look because it’s a nude collection and therefore its subtle but gives you that little “pow” look you’d like to achieve.

So who are the models? Halima Aden does it yet again after her grand experience as the cover of vogue magazine and she is still seen to represent the beauty that lies in being conservative. Duckie Thot, the ultimate melanin queen who has been slaying on the streets of Instagram and taking the favour of celebrities like Tammy Rivera, Slick Woods a famous Instagram model who is celebrated for embracing her natural elements (short hair and gap in her teeth) among others.

The Caribbean queen is clearly evolving to be somewhat of a business mogul and this has been seen with how her Fenty Puma collection sells out within hours of being released. The campaign has every make-up enthusiast craving for the collection and anxiously waiting for the release at Sephora (which means for us in Kenya, we have no option but to wait a while or get a good friend or family member to ship it in for us).
