An elite art showcase curated by One Off Gallery, presenting vibrant pieces by Kenya's Sane Wadu and Ethiopia's Fitsum Berhe, took place at the lavish Atrium inside the Sankara Hotel on Thursday, 27th September.
The artists' pieces each told a story: Sane's, was a reflection of Kenya in the old days - Christmas with family in the village, the climate of politics just after independence; Fitsum's pieces centred on individuals, most of whom he encountered on his various travels across the motherland.
Check out the list of the fab and drab moments from the artsy soirée.

  1. The Art

The art pieces, particularly Fitsum's, were very captivating. The colour co-ordination and the perfectly chiselled cheek bones of the subjects in the paintings was particularly impressive. Sane and his wife, Eunice, are the friendliest people you'll probably ever meet, not to mention their undeniable love for life. The duo are creatives and inspire each other in making art with the utmost precision and attention to detail. Some pieces take as long as two years to create, hence their prices (think along the Ksh 700,000 lines).

Sankara never disappoint on this one. The soft lighting, mellow music and simple setup - with comfy couches and cocktail tables - was perfect for this kind of event. Mingling and socialising was made a lot easier.

Guests can either make or break an event. The invited attendees were very sociable and made an extra effort to interact amongst each other. A lot of positive vibes went around the room, which probably meant serious business for the artists, because a happy crowd is a spending crowd.
  1. Food and drinks

Let's be frank, what's a good art event without some delicious food and sparkling wine? The bitings were beautifully presented. There were some lovely fish fingers with tartar sauce, chicken mshkakis. Dessert comprised of tiramisu cakes and strawberry tart, yum! The guests also had an option of red and white wine as well as a choice of fresh juices. What more can you ask for on a Wednesday evening?

  1. That it had to end
With all great events, the downside to them is the fact that they have to end. Totally looking forward to the next one!
