Exploring the Marvel and DC World

This is a tale as old as time, or to be more specific, a tale that began in May 1996, when the crossover miniseries Marvel versus DC was published.

Before we get into which one is better, we have to talk about what they both bring to the table. We are talking comics, cartoon adaptations, movies, series’ and games.

Let the war begin!

There was a time when both publications worked together to create a super comic crossover, now we have to ask the question, which do you like better?

Detective comics aka DC Comics, are known for their deep, dark, introspective tones. They deal with realistic topics affecting society, such as murder, crippling and tragic loss, mental breakdowns, and emotional instability. Take the example of Batman, who is dark, calculated and low-key -well- high key scary.

Marvel is known for its funnier, lighter tone, heavy on the entertainment value. Take Deadpool for example. I mean, who doesn’t like it?  It’s in your face and ridiculous.

Cartoon Adaptations

DC Comics gave you animated series such as Batman – the movie and series, Justice League, Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go!, Son of Batman, Wonder woman, Death of Superman, Green Lantern and many more.

While Marvel presented Spectacular Spiderman, Avengers, X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, Mutant X, Iron Fist, Inhumans, Defenders, Black Panther, Loki and so many more.

If you want a plan to stay in during your holidays, all these animations are definitely binge worthy.

Movies and Series

DC movies such as Suicide Squad, Justice League and Batman v Superman didn’t exactly receive rave reviews but Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Dark Knight Trilogy which was directed by Christopher Nolan received critical acclaim .

Shows like the Flash, Smallville, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lighting (the black cast keep it amazing), Batwoman  and Gotham, all series’ based off of the comics, have also been getting good reviews.

Marvel movies such as Avengers, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2, Iron Man, Fantastic four (The original), Captain America and more are known as the movie juggernauts, while movies such as Captain Marvel and the Fantastic four remake were not received as well as they expected.

Although Marvel is the more dominant universe, high viewership shows such as Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Dare Devil and Punisher have been cancelled by Netflix, but I assume they are gearing up for Disney plus, a subscription streaming service that will be exclusively showing Marvel content. But shows like Jessica Jones, Cloak and Dagger, A.G.E.N.T.S of Shield have been on everybody’s watch list.

DC’s collection tends to have more popularity among gamers compared to Marvel. Games such as Injustice: gods among us, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, Batman Arkham Origins and Injustice 2 rank quite high for most.

Marvel’s Spiderman game has gotten rave reviews. Avengers the game has been released, but not made an impact like Spiderman or any other DC Games.

So, what tickles your fancy, humour or the dark path of justice?
