Fasil Ghebbi is the remains of a 17th century fortress-city in Gondar, Ethiopia

When I walked into Tamara Britten's impressive Manhattan-like Kitisuru home last Saturday, I was struck by the all-white décor and shelves upon shelves of books - about 3,000 to be precise. I was there on an exclusive invite for the launch of Exclusive Ethiopia, a new website that provides customized tours and expeditions to Ethiopia.
The intimate setting was exactly what we needed for a rainy, chilly evening, with Ethiopian espresso shots to chase away the cold and authentic Ethiopian foods served by Asmara Restaurant to round off the entire Ethiopian experience.
The exclusiveethiopia.com website went live at 3pm, which was the party's arrival time. Friends, associates as well as media came together to celebrate the occasion. Ethiopian musicians serenaded the guests with their Ethiopian melodies, giving the guests a taste of what to expect when visiting the horn of Africa country.
The event was full of hidden treasures. Attendees were indulged in a game of chance. The catch? To win a 4-night stay at an exclusive mountain hotel. The game? Simple; one only had to pin their name on a random point within a map of Ethiopia and hope that they selected a point close to where the hidden treasure lies.
I didn't win, unfortunately. But I at least got a T-shirt from Ethiopian Airlines, who were one of the sponsors of the event.
As the sister website to the already popular Karibu Kenya website, Exclusive Ethiopia is probably one of the best websites to discover Ethiopia. For the longest time, Ethiopia has been known for only her beautiful women, distance runners, Emperor Haile Selassie and the metropolitan Addis Ababa which hosts the AU headquarters. But rarely do people dig further to find out what else Ethiopia has to offer.
It's an amazing guide, showcasing the world's most famous archaeological sites, of pelicans wading in Lake Tana which is the source of the Great River Nile, of religious artistry and churches curved into rocks at the top cliffs of Tigrey, of royalty and the castles of Gondar, of the people's culture as well as trips around the Bale Mountain National Park.
The site also offers recommendations on where to stay, tips for travellers into the country, facts about Ethiopia as well as a rich history of the country of such beautiful people.
Exclusive Ethiopia is exclusively Tamara Britten's brain child, with detailed research about the country in collaboration with her Ethiopian partner, Mulugeta Ababu and the Ethiopian Government's Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
