Food delivery kenya

Too tired to cook after work today? Food deliveries have come a long way since dial-a-pizza. A multi-course meal from your favorite restaurant to your dining room table is now just a few clicks away.

Yum
Yum provides you with a portal to 250 of your favourite restaurants through https://yum.co.ke/, or if you prefer, the Yum app or by phone. You pay the same price as you would if you went to the restaurant yourself and a delivery fee of between Ksh 100– 250. They have very informative customer care personnel who take you through the process if you get stuck or if you order by phone.

Deliveries take about 40 minutes to an hour and you pay cash on delivery. Yum offers their services in Nairobi, Nakuru, Kisumu and Nanyuki- just select your city and your neighbourhood and the rest is simple and intuitive. If you live in a neighbourhood like Westlands with a lot of restaurants, this service is great. In my neighbourhood there are only four no-very-inspiring restaurants to choose from.

Jumia Food
Previously known as Hellofood, Jumia Food website- https://food.jumia.co.ke/ and app- Jumia Online Shopping- connects hungry users with nearby restaurants serving some of the best cuisines in Nairobi and Mombasa. It takes about 40 minutes to an hour to get your meal and you pay cash on delivery. Though the software is not as nice as Yum, the selection of restaurants in my neighbourhood was almost three times as on Yum. But we had a really hard time reaching customer service; the phones either didn’t work or we were put on hold (dreaded musical hold) and then cut off.

Mama Meals on Wheels

Unlike the other two services, when ordering on www.mamamealsonwheels.co.ke, you first select the restaurant you want (rather than your area). This is the only service that doesn’t restrict you to the restaurants in your neighbourhood. Once you make an order, it takes at least 45 minutes to get your meal and the cost depends on where you live. The minimum is Kshs 350 and can go as high as Kshs 1500 (Kitengela, Rongai). Payment for this service is also cash on delivery.

Analysis
If you are all about the smooth technology, then Yum is the service for you. If you are looking for a big selection of restaurants in a large number of areas, Jumia is what you have been looking for. And if you want to order from whatever restaurant takes your fancy, no matter where in Nairobi it’s located, then give Mama Meals on Wheels a try.
