The year is 1998. Underprivileged students from a Miami highschool sign up for an elective class in chess taught by Mario Martinez (John Leguizamo) who is affectionately known as 'Mr.T'
The teens are rowdy, street-smart, sharp witted and hard to control in class. They give their teacher "Mr. T" a hard time but he is determined  to show them how to transcend the expectations (or lack thereof) that have been thrust upon them. They're poor, live in terrible conditions but  In the trailer Mr. T explains that "Chess is the great equalizer".
Mr. T does his best to intellectually whip into shape his students and eventually puts together a gifted team of 5 that goes on to compete with much more experienced and resourced kids. But these extraordinary kids go on to surprise the whole country. Checkmate.
Based on a true story, Critical Thinking is a movie about tenacity, overcoming adversity and teamwork. There's a little cursing here and there but it's an important film to watch with your teens.
