Most of us grew up with amazing animations thanks to Disney. I remember watching Snow White and Aladdin and thinking, why was I not born a cartoon? Well, there's some good news for people like us. Disney is looking to update their popular animations to live-action movies which mean we will have real-life characters. Here are some we are excited to see as live-action movies and people we think can slay in those roles.
Aladdin
This movie is expected to premiere in May 2019. There were issues about who was to play Aladdin and Princess Jasmine seeing as they were characters presented as people of Middle Eastern descent. I suggest Ian Mugoya from Kenya and Brenda Wairimu. Who is with me? Disney has reportedly cast newcomers of actual Middle Eastern heritage to star in the movie. The point is we'll get to see whether the genie in the bottle will really fit as a human being.
The Lion King
Beyonce will be in this movie. Do we need to say more? She will be playing Nala. The plan for this live-action movie is to include as many original characters as possible so expect to see James Earl Jones as Mufasa. Daniel Glover of Atlanta TV series will be playing Simba. I don't even think we need cast suggestions. John Kani who plays T'Chaka in Black Panther will also be there.
Mulan
If a child can be anything, then they can also be a female warrior. Mulan was one funny and inspiring story about a girl who chose to defy societal standards and pursue what she really wanted to do; fighting for her people. Sarah Hassan is best suited for this role. I guess that's why she relocated to the United States a few years ago. She has been filming this movie. I am allowed to dream.
Pinocchio
He was such a liar but his lies always caught up with him. If you watched this as a kid, you probably grew fearful of lying because you probably didn't want your nose to sprout. The fun part was lying afterwards and checking on the mirror whether your nose had grown a little longer. To play this role, you'd have to be a convincingly good liar so on that note, any suggestions?
Cruella
This is one animation I want to see materialize as a live-action movie. If you have watched both 101 Dalmations 1 and 2 (like me, several hundred times), then you probably know Cruella de Vil. She is the ultimate villain with an obsession for puppies and everything fur. Emma Stone is reportedly to play Cruella but there has been no confirmation. Imagine Nini Wacera as Cruella?
Prince Charming
You have seen him in Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. But who exactly is Prince Charming apart from having wealth and good looks as superpowers? This is still in the works and the confirmation is yet to be given as to who will direct it. Ladies can start sending their submissions as to who they would gladly eye-feast on for two hours.
Oliver Twist
This animation was based on Charles Dickens book by the same name and we all felt pity for the mistreatments that Oliver went through. The book had been turned into an animation feature, according to Collider and was called Oliver and Company. The live action remake will have a hip-hop spin to it. Rapper Ice Cube has been called to produce the movie.
Tinkerbell
Reese Witherspoon has been cast in this upcoming movie Tink. Who remembers Tinkerbell? She had such energy that made you jolly with excitement as a young kid. The animation also had its funny lines. In Kenya, I think Jacky Vike has the energy and personality to match that of Tinkerbell's.
The Little Mermaid
At one point, we've all thought mermaids are real. We've also hoped mermaids are real. Well, Ariel is probably the reason why we thought mermaids exist because she was adorable as a Disney animation. Ariel and her two friends will be brought to life in a movie whose premiere date is yet to be announced. Music for the movie is also being composed which gives us hope that good things are on their way.
The Sword in the Stone
This to me felt more like a David-Goliath-esque kind of animation. Only that in this case, the young boy didn't have to fight Goliath to be king but he unmounts a magical sword from a stone that gives him the legitimacy to be one. Any young act from Machachari can own that role.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
This will just be an update to the animated movie. This is one of those classic animations that any fan will be excited to see as a live-action movie. The producer of Into The Woods will produce the film.
Which other Disney classics would you like to see made into live-action films?
