Gathoni Kimuyu, commonly known as Queen Gathoni on Twitter, is a busy lady. From her role as a producer for the successful Kenyan play series Too Early For birds, being a mum and dabbling in many other creative projects, she definitely has a lot going on.
Top on her list is her love for fitness. I joined her for one of her intense sessions at the SmartGym Juction mall and her work out routine sure sets her apart from the crowd. When she is away on location shoots she ensures that she is armed with a mobile mini gym in her car: dumbbells, a yoga mat among others, all of which are easily portable.
Working out without a doubt is not easy. It takes strength ,determination and most importantly, self will.  From the time requirement, the normal soreness ,the occasional relapses in fitness, or the dieting. All these are challenges that most people working out or trying to face. Discipline is key.
As I joined Gathoni for her session, she shared some helpful tips for anyone already working out or someone who is starting out.

Form is key

When working out, quality is more important than quantity. You need to know how to do your reps in the right way, this boosts efficiency, reduces injury and also preserves energy.
An injury in the gym can set you so far back of which could have been avoiding if you had taken time perfecting your form.

Dieting

As the saying goes Weight loss is 80% Diet and 20% exercise.
You need to watch what you eat. Depending on what you hope to achieve, different diets are advised.  Consult your trainer or if you don't have one,a little research doesn't hurt.

Consistency

Keeping a tight schedule helps in raising endurance.  Common wisdom confirms that it is always harder to get the back to your earlier form after missing out a couple of sessions.
Consistency also helps you achieve your results faster.

Set goals

As the saying goes, failing to plan is planning to fail.
You need to have a clear vision on where you want to be in a certain amount of time and also plan on the areas that need more priority when working out.
If its weights you're lifting, establish your current lifting weight and set a target on where you want to be in a month, for example.

Patience

Working out is a process. Results don't happen in a day, week or month. There will be days you will feel like missing out on the gym, or indulging a little more on that sweet carrot cake but there will also be victories. The abs you craved will start forming, the weights that gave you trouble will become easier.
Staying fit is a lifestyle so take your time and go at your own pace.
