Game of Thrones is one of the most successful TV shows. It is based on a novel by George R.R Martin. This goes to show that at times, to have a TV series that people will rave about, all you have to do is tap into the book world.
Here are five books that will be turned into TV series this year;
Drama High
Tahidi High has kept Kenyans looped in on what teens are up to in school. We've also had TV shows like 13 Reasons Why engaging audiences on issues of teen depression. Drama High is the new TV series expected to hit the small screens later this year. It's based on a book that centres on the drama department of a high school in the U.S. Surprisingly; it's based on a true story of high school drama teacher Lou Volpe whose passion for his work and the students who work with him cause drama in a small town.
Sweet Bitter
This award-winning book is another one that will let you in on the exclusive world of high-end restaurants. The story follows a 22-year old girl who gets accepted to work at a fancy restaurant in New York and the can of worms that is sex, drugs and French wine. It is more of what Flesh and Bone gave which is a coming of age story of a young girl. But hey, fine dining any day for me. Adulting is hard for everyone, find out through Stephanie's story.
Top of the Morning
Do you watch Good Morning Kenya, AM Live or Cheche? Top of the Morning is a book about the cutthroat scenes of the world of breakfast shows. It is a show that was commissioned by Apple and will have stars such as Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston. It's expected to have a lot of drama because it will be like the war between all major TV networks. What would we give to see that in a Kenyan context?
Dietland
The beauty industry has always been under attack. Over the years, people have tried to make it more than just about external beauty. Dietland is a dark comedy show that will follow the life of Kitty Montgomery (played by Juliana Margulies of The Good Wife), a wildly ambitious magazine editor whose world is thrown into chaos when a feminist terrorist organization starts targeting people in her orbit. Sucked into a terrifying news cycle, Kitty no longer can rely on her old-school media power and instead must play a whole new game of master manipulation where rules no longer apply.
Sharp Objects
If you like crime novels, this is one to look for before you see it on the telly. It is a miniseries that set to premiere in summer this year starring Amy Adams. The plot for the series reads, "Camille, a crime reporter fresh out of a psych hospital for her years of self-harm, returns to her hometown of Wind Gap, Mo., to investigate the murders of two little girls. The assignment lands her back in her childhood home under the critical eye of picture-perfect small-town socialite Adora, which forces Camille to confront personal demons."
