From Louis Armstrong to Nina Simone and closer home, Eddie Gray and Ricky Nanjero, jazz musicians have blessed us with timeless tunes.
According to MasterClass , jazz music is a broad style of music characterized by complex harmony, syncopated rhythms, and a heavy emphasis on improvisation.
Black musicians in New Orleans, Louisiana developed the jazz style in the early twentieth century. Long considered one of the musical capitals of the world, New Orleans has also fostered a robust blues tradition over the years.
Jazz rapidly spread throughout America, and before long, the world. The musical form evolved to embrace popular music standards, modal music, pop, rock, funk, and even true avant-garde compositions.
Today in Kenya, jazz has become a musical staple and whole festivals are held to celebrate this genre of music.
International Jazz Day (April 30) is the world's largest celebration of jazz. Declared in 2011 by UNESCO, Jazz Day recognizes jazz music as a worldwide cultural unifier.
Now in its 10th year (2021 doesn't count, we were all indoors this time last year), International Jazz day will see thousands of jazz musicians and enthusiasts come together to celebrate music and culture.
You too can participate in the festivities this year right here at home. Entertainment group 24:7 Group has partnered with Kenya National Commission for UNESCO to host Art of Jazz on International Day!
Art of Jazz is an intimate top-notch contemporary jazz event with a gorgeous set-up. It is an eco-sustainable event promoting tourism and environmental sustainability.
The program features and celebrates world-class homegrown talent by partnering with local and international artists bringing deeply rooted musical jazz influences from the continent and beyond.  Watch the band Ricky na Marafiki perform at the hub on April 30 from noon till 7:00pm
