The first Africa Cantat Festival edition was planned in Nairobi by the French Embassy. It was to be a one-week festival that was to bring together choirs and singers from Kenya and other parts of Africa and the rest of the world.
They were to gather for a week of cultural exchange earlier this month through singing and dancing. Then COVID-19 happened and this cultural extravaganza had to be halted.
But the beat must go on and African Cantant Festival was turned into a virtual experience.
The singers  have been attending workshops called Ateliers (Warsha" in Kiswahili), with 3 hours of rehearsals each day, where they learnt music new to them.
The artists have been putting in a lot of work and the online edition is happening this week - 27th to 30th August.
The opening ceremony will be on Thursday 27th at 5.30pm. Catch it live on Facebook at Africa Cantat Festival 2020 and sing along from your home with choirmaster Denis Thuillier from 'Les Temps Modernes' Choir. A musical safari with 20 choirs from all over Africa.
