A Look at the ‘Mujeres de Negro’ Finale on Citizen TV: Cliffhanger or Disaster?
Mujeres de Negro came to a conclusion on Citizen TV this past weekend and the finale proved to be one of the most intriguing of any telenovela ever aired on Kenyan TV. Finales are always a precarious task for show runners and with Mujeres de Negro, it felt as though the producers had the hardest time ever trying to find a satisfactory ending.
In this episode, we learn that the three women, Jackie, Katia and Vanessa, were not responsible for their husbands’ murders all along. The person they paid to place a bomb in the yacht never did it. This is revealed in court and the real culprit turns out to be Police Inspector Bruno Borgetti. Borgetti is convicted of this along with other crimes that are brought to light by the confessions of Irene Palozuelos. It’s a great surprise because at this point we all believe Irene to be dead. Apparently, she survived the two gunshots that Borgetti fired at her when she tried to escape from jail.
Now free of the murders, Jackie, Katia and Vanessa walk out of court in celebratory mood alongside their friends and family. Then suddenly, there is a loud explosion! The word “FIN” (The End) is superimposed on the screen, fading out the fiery rubble of the courthouse and blaring emergency horns.
The show became notorious for killing off characters ever since its debut and I had theorized that by the end of the show, we would not have any characters left. I was only trying to make light of the situation but it turns out that that’s exactly what the show producers had in mind. Almost every major character was at the courtroom, so it’s safe to speculate that everyone dies in the end.
