Cooped up at home? Looking for a chance to get your family out of the house for a fun and educational experience? Outdoor, socially distanced open air activities are the healthiest and safest way.
Whether it's feeding the rabbits, picking juicy tree tomatoes or collecting eggs from the chicken coop, little ones will love exploring what's around the next corner at Mlango farm in Thingati, Ngecha
Founded by Kenyan-Dutch couple Kamande and Els, Mlango is a great place for kids to learn how organic food is produced.
Kids get to meet and sometimes, feed the animals.  They'll learn about the farm animals needs and characteristics, how they change as they grow, as well as how Mlango cares for them.
They'll get to explore the growth cycle of the plants, the parts of the plant, the importance of soil, the water cycle and how they are all connected.
Exercise is encouraged with games and activities that allow the children to experience the farm and explore where their food comes from. Time is also spent in their fields which gives children an opportunity for safe, unstructured play time in a grassy, natural setting allowing them to experience the fun side of farms.
A typical visit at the farm starts at 11am. Guests are welcomed and offered freshly brewed coffee or tea. Then, the knowledgeable, enthusiastic instructors/guides take you around the farm. During the guided tour kids may like to harvest their own vegetables, at Ksh 800 per basket. Please bring your own kitchen knife, baskets will be provided at the farm.
After the farm tour, lunch is served in the garden. They have an array of farm-to-fork dishes with plenty of vegan & vegetarian options.
Costs are Ksh 2000 per person and this includes both a guided tour of the farm and lunch. Kids under 12 pay half (Ksh 1000). Kids below 3 get to tour for free.
Visits are by appointment only. Call +254 728 848296.
