Indo- Africa relations in East Africa go way back to the 15th Century. However, significant Indian migration to modern day Kenya began following the creation of the East Africa Protectorate in 1895.
Since then, Indian and Indigenous African cultures have entwined for close to two centuries and this has resulted in a colorful fusion of Indo-African culture.
Today in Kenya, Saris & Vitenges are ubiquitous fashion items and it's not unusual to see someone give an ode to both cultures by stylishly combining elements of both clothing.
Henna decorations, nose piercings and anklets are popular in both cultures and various forms of face embellishments feature heavily across the board.
This Sunday, 1st May, from 4PM-8PM at the Shree Jalaram Satsang Mandal auditorium in Parklands,  fashion enthusiasts are invited to the Indo- Kenyan Fashion event. A celebration of diversity that will see the fashion vanguards of both cultures showcase their best pieces.
