American Actor-filmmaker Thomas Jeffrey Hanks features as Fred McFeely Rogers an American television personality, musician, puppeteer, writer and producer in the drama ,’A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood.’ Here is what you need to know about the American biographical drama film.

“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” is designed to sneak up on you. In the hands of a lesser storyteller, the saga of a bitter reporter who learns to appreciate life after forging a friendship with Fred Rogers would resort to cheap, maudlin devices. With the iconic showman Tom Hanks as the smiling children’s television host, the formula writes itself, and most people will probably assume they know every beat of the movie sight unseen.

Immediately ‘A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood’ was announced, there was a sense of that while it was no doubt made with good intentions, it was impossible to shake the feeling that this felt like yet another dry, stale Oscar-bait drama with a convincing, if workmanlike performance from Tom Hanks attached. Instead, what director Marielle Heller and screenwriters Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue have done is something that is definitely unique, and also what was needed for a personality like Fred Rogers.

Lloyd Vogel is an Esquire journalist who interviews Rogers for the Esquire profile. Lloyd’s editor assigns him to interview children’s television presenter Fred Rogers for a 400-word article about heroes, but Lloyd feels the assignment is beneath him. Vogel approaches the interview with a lot of scepticism challenging the american TV personality that is Fred Rogers depicted by Tom Hanks.

The film was chosen by Time Magazine as one of the best 10 films in 2019 receiving widespread critical acclaim for it’s exploration of themes of forgiveness and acceptance.

The movie is set to release on March the 13th.
