These podcasts give you a slice of Nairobi's contemporary scene as they explore topics ranging from sex, to the exponential growth of Nairobi's tech ecosystem, to music, to current affairs, to life in the big city.

1. Omenerds

They take on everything under the sun; pop culture, music, film, book, events, food, TV… everything. Omenerds are the wry voices you need to help you laugh as they take on the travails of being young, Kenyan and hopeful. Their shows are available on Stitcher, Podbean and iTunes

2. The Spread

The Spread is a series of candid conversations that about sex. No topic is off limits as they tackle sexual health, consent and the spectrum of human sexuality. Catch them on Stitcher, iTunes and Soundcloud.

3. Moringa School Podcast

Despite being new to the podcast scene, Moringa School's podcast seems to be one to follow this year. Their conversations centre on technology. The first three episodes predict tech trends in 2019, bitcoin mining and getting started as a software developer in Nairobi. Find them on Podbean and Stitcher.

4. Nipe Story

Nipe Story brings short fiction from African writers to life. The audio versions are narrated by Kevin Mwachiro  and released on fortnight basis on SoundCloud, PodChaser, Stitcher and iTunes.

5. For the Culture

For the Culture is a broadcast collective whose episodes feature eclectic mixes from guest DJs and interviews of talented underground local artists. Tune in on MixCloud to catch their shows.

6. Otherwise

A weekly show about Kenyan current affairs hosted by Brenda Wambui. Otherwise seeks to educate and keep you updated on political and social affairs. Listen to Otherwise on SoundCloud, Stitcher, Overcast and iTunes.

7. Just Another Male Podcast

Tune into Martie and Chege lively banter as  they take on current affairs and delve into their personal experiences of what it means to be a young man in Kenya. Their shows are available on MixCloud.

8. The Human Interest Podcast

Human Interest is a storytelling weekly podcast by Evelyn Wambui featuring a mix of real and fictional stories about life. The narrations about people's successes, challenges, losses and lessons are available on SoundCloud, iTunes, and Stitcher.

9. Tings & Things

This podcast by Jonathan Mbaya and Simba Tsumba was borne out of their desire to share stories of their adventures and experiences drawn from living in Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia and US. The podcast is available on iTunes.

10. Future Lab Africa

According to Jepchumba, the founder of the series, Future Lab Africa is a ''podcast series (radio show) that hopes to breed curiosity by inviting the you to use your imagination and think creatively with reckless abandon. The show is a call to explore African modes of science and technology outside of lab spaces and innovation labs
