Sci-fi fans the world over are excited for Dune. Based on the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert, it spawned 5 sequels and was a wildly popular work of literature in the 70s.
Categorized as  "countercultural sci-fi", Dune centers on Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding. He must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.
As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet's exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence- a commodity capable of unlocking humanity's greatest potential- only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
Writing for Vulture, Glenn Kenny describes Dune as "a futuristic geopolitical allegory that is anti-corporate and  pro-eco-radicalism". Kenny is an authority in all things  movies so you might  wanna listen to him.
This is the third time that Hollywood has attempted to bring Dune to the big screen. The first attempt came in the mid-1970s then in 1984 and now in 2021. The first two movies didn't do great at the theaters but the new director, Denis Villeneuve, swears the third time's a charm.
We've seen some teasers and here are 5 reasons we think you should watch Dune at the theaters this weekend:
The book was Great!
This book is a cult classic! Did we mention it spawned 5 sequels and was a wildly popular work of literature in the 70s?
Visually Great Based On Trailer
Everyone's talking about the terrific giant sandworm shown in the trailer. The cinematography is mind-blowing! Watch it here.
Amazing Cast
The casting director really came through with the talent. Josh Brolin, Charlotte Rampling, and Timothée Chalamet have all been nominated for Oscars, while Javier Bardem won one. Rebecca Ferguson was up for a Golden Globe, while Zendaya recently won her first Emmy for her work in Euphoria
The Action!
Director Villeneuve told Entertainment Weekly about a new style of combat involving shields. The way he explained it certainly sounds like it will be intriguing to see on screen.
Sequels are coming!
Director Villeneuve signed on to ink a deal for two movies. The novel is way too powerful and complex to be contained in one movie.
