Sense8 felt very close to home despite it being an international TV show. The TV series which was set against a backdrop of a group of people, who had telekinetic powers, had Kenyan representation. There were scenes that were shot around Nairobi and we even had Kobi Kihara feature in its second season. Filmmakers globally have for a while now turned to Africa to film some scenes. Here are TV series set to air internationally that have either been shot here or are currently being filmed in the continent.
Troy: The Fall of A City
This Netflix/BBC production follows the love story of Paris and Helen that led to the grand fall of the city of Troy. The story is told from Helen of Troy's royal family, in a tale of mortals, war and gods. The show which is set to show from February in2018 has been shot in Cape Town South Africa with a budget of around Ksh. 300m per episode. The TV series has been entangled in controversy for its choice to cast a black actor as the mythical Achilles. Some people say it is not right to have an African Achilles since Africans had nothing to do with Greek mythology. We'll let you be the judge of that.
The Widow
The 8-part TV show will tell the story of Georgia who must face the truth of what happened to her estranged husband who worked in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The ITV-commissioned series will be shot in various locations among them Africa. Kate Beckinsale who is the lead actress is already in South Africa for the filming.
Agent
This TV series started production in late October last year in Mauritius. The show follows the life of a former footballer turned agent whose work is now to find new sporting talent. It depicts the glamorous world of African football in a twist of high energy drama. The Agent who will be known as Blaze will eventually get caught up in his past life. The drama series was pre-purchased by Canal+International for distribution around the world in 2018 so keep an eye out for it.
Vikings Season 5
Vikings fans will be pleased to know that the fifth season had some scenes filmed in Morocco. One of the reasons why it was shot there was because of the Sahara desert. Creator Michael Hirst told Entertainment Weekly that, "One of the things that was constraining us was that we couldn't reproduce the Sahara desert in the west of Ireland." The lead actor who plays Bjorn even added, "When you see the Vikings in the Sahara, in these sand dunes… you'd never seen that palette on the show before. It's exquisite and wonderful."  Vikings season 5 is currently showing in the United States and is expected to end at a later date in 2018.
