A total of ten Eastern Black rhinos have now died over the past two weeks or so since an obviously terribly gone wrong relocation of these rare animals were taken from Nakuru and Nairobi national parks to be sent to Tsavo East.
The shock news of the death of a tenth animal were broken by Kenya's Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala an hour ago after rumours had all morning swept the social media already but with officials holding back any confirmation until the Minister himself had spoken out.
The belated death now makes it an even more urgent task to have a fully independent post mortem performed on the animals to establish if the saga about highly saline water was in fact the actual cause or, as has been suggested elsewhere, medication administered before and after the translocation could have been the reason for the untimely demise of this rare species of rhinos.
Questions have also been increasingly asked about the suitability of the chosen location and why they were not released in Tsavo West where at least some time ago a rhino enclosure had been established.
