Aquaman. The one name that sends surges of thrill coursing through the bodies of rabid movie fans, especially loyal fanatics of DC Comics characters. Critics got a chance to watch the movie prior to its hitting the cinemas this December, and the initial reviews are doing a great job to hike anticipation throughout the world.
But what's the deal with Aquaman? Who is he? What are the comics all about? And most importantly, why should you care about the upcoming movie? Well, we have a few fun tidbits to help you along.
1. Aquaman made his first appearance in a 1941 comic book done by DC comics, particularly, More Fun Comics #73.
2. Aquaman was a founding member of the Justice League, another creation of DC comics, in the late 1950's.
3. Apart from swimming as fast as a missile, he can also hurl a submarine from under the ocean to the surface, without twitching a facial muscle.
4. He leads underneath all the oceans of Earth, and well, he doesn't lead by the nose. He's a universal ocean King!
5. As a kid, he got cheek by jowl with sharks, that he'd ride them like a horse.
6. His trident can shoot massive beams of energy and manipulate masses of water. The density of the deep ocean comes nowhere near affecting his body. That nature makes Aquaman bulletproof too.
7. He once angrily threw something to a group of hunters who had gotten under his skin for illegally killing seals. What he threw at them wasn't a rock, it was an angry, ginormous polar bear!
8. He once got caught up in Wonder Woman's lasso of truth, and confessed to being enamoured with her.
9. A king throws commands and the soldiers execute, yeah? Aquaman once ordered his loyal soldiers (sharks) to tear his enemies apart. And well, the sharks did just that.
10. Aquaman is more than just a superhero. In one of his adventures captured in DC comic books, he punched death in the face!
Aquaman comes to cinemas this December 14. Advance tickets coming soon, here.
