:
- Consider putting one of your legs through the strap of your bag if you think putting it under the table is the best option.
- Put the thigh part of your leg over your hand bag when sitting at a table in an outdoor cafe - although not terribly comfortable, it makes your bag very difficult to get to.
- Try to keep your handbag and valuables out of site at all times.
- Don't take an expensive bag out shopping with you. Have cheaper bags for shopping or dining at outside cafe's.
- If you're concerned about products inside your handbag being taken, just don't take them with you. If you're just popping to the stores, you most likely don't require half the contents of your handbag. Lock them in a secure place at your residence instead.
- If you need to take valuables with you, divide them up on your person.
- Don't keep your car keys in your hand bag.
- Consider buying a security pouch that you can conceal and keep close to your body for items such as money, credit cards, ATM cards, etc. Money belts are also useful.
- Don't keep documents in your bag that have your physical address on it.
- Have a password for your smart phone so that emails, addresses, etc cannot be compromised. Using simple codes such as 0000 or 1234 are not good enough.

How to prevent bag snatching at restaurants

A woman had her hand bag snatched from under a table at an outside restaurant at Uchumi Supermarket near Wilson Airport last Friday afternoon. She thought that since it was under the table that it was safe. Her car keys, credit cards, money, mobile phone, etc were all in her handbag.
