Be on guard in shopping malls

Beware, there has been an increase in thefts of purses at the high end Nairobi shopping malls.  Items left out of your sight or in crowded conditions on floors and aisles of stores, can easily be stolen. Please watch your items when shopping.
When placing your purchases into your vehicle in parking areas, make sure they are out of view.  If they see it, they can get it.

A favourite trick by thieves is to engage the victim in a conversation while the accomplice makes off with the goods.

Crowded shops and malls are also a favourite hunting ground for pick pockets therefore ensure that men's wallets are carried in front pockets of trousers, and hand bags are carried with the strap across shoulders, and bags fastened at all times.  Be extra careful when seated in food courts and leaving your purse/bags on the ground beside you.  If possible, leave your purse in the trunk of your vehicle and carry only the essentials in your pockets.

Do not display sums of money in public and any withdrawals from ATMs should be done in secure locations, not open to public view - always use ATMs that have security staff posted nearby.
