Moving isn’t the drama it’s cracked up to be

Last week I had to move out of my Nyali apartment, where I had been living during the week whilst the children went to school in Mombasa.

In September they moved schools, which meant me moving back to Watamu full time, and leaving my bolt hole in Mombasa.  The trauma of leaving my friends combined with the idea of packing up all the items I’d accrued over three years was all a bit much.  Added to that was the emotion of the children now boarding (empty nest syndrome I believe they call it), and the ominous thought that the moving process was supposed to be one of the most stressful things you ever do in life – you can understand why I wasn’t looking forward to ‘the move’.

Turns out I was very wrong – not about missing my friends, that is very true, but the move itself couldn’t have been easier.  I can’t praise the company that moved me enough, and if ever you are in the same situation I highly recommend them for their service and friendliness.  I was told to expect them at 8am and they were early (what, in Kenya?  Oh yes!) – within 3 hours my apartment was boxed up and on the truck, the satellite dish and all its cabling removed and the apartment swept clean.  By 3.30pm they had unloaded everything in Watamu, removed the packaging and headed back to Mombasa.  And who were these wonderful people? Cube Movers (www.cubemovers.co.ke).  I can’t thank them enough for making what could have been a nightmare into a dream.
