Special Education Professionals or SEP is a group of qualified Kenyan and international therapists and special education teachers who volunteer to help improve the situation of children with handicaps in Kenya. SEP is a unique professional support network with members from all over the world, offering a platform to share views about therapy approaches and interventions. SEP has built up ten years of experience in Kenya, mainly in Nairobi, working with less-priviledged families.
SEP organizes monthly early intervention consultations and interactive workshops at the Gertrude's Garden Children's Hospital. These activities aim at empowering parents, caregivers and teachers od children with special needs. Doctors, teachers, assessment teachers, therapists, and fellow parents refer families to SEP to seek professional multi-disciplinary advice. SEP maintains an information base on existing facilities and therapy services. SEP also works in schools, homes and day-care centres to improve the facilities in terms of furniture, adapted educative materials and toys, and in training the staff.
SEP is a non-profit making society working with professional volunteers.
